Kathy (Martin) Hardin
Greetings from Alabama! It's
been enjoyable to read the email from our class at MHS. I would love to hear
from more folks. It's been sad, as well, to learn of the loss of so many. Also,
we are sorry so many have had to endure divorces. They can be so painful... To
give an update, Jim Hardin (class of '65) and I have been married for 37 years.
We have one child, Audrey. and three grandchildren, Will, 10, Clare, 8, and
Caroline, 6. Our son-in-law, William, was in the Air Force, but now works for
Alltel in Little Rock, Arkansas. They both graduated from Auburn University.
Audrey went back to teaching last year after ten years of raising her little
ones. She gets as much satisfaction from teaching as I do. We are able to visit
with them several times a year. It's fun to have them here, and we especially
like to take them on road trips. The car "experiences" have often been as
adventurous as the destinations. They have been introduced to Roy Rodgers and
Dale Evans, the Lone Ranger and Tonto, Zorro, and many more of our
childhood heroes. I finished my undergraduate degree at the same time Jim
finished his master's at WVU. He went into the Air Force, and we had 22 good
years in the military. It would be much more difficult today, I think. For two
West Virginia kids who had rarely left the state, we have made up for it and
have been quite fortunate to travel many places. I have taught in public and
private schools almost every year since I graduated. My passion has been with
pre-kindergarten children, and I have taught that age group for 20 years. Jim
retired from the Air Force, and he now works in Student Affairs at Auburn
University. Over dinner I relate the antics of my four and five year olds, and
he tells me the college version-some are funny-some are not! We have been here
for 14 years and have been so happy. The weather is great and the people are
friendly. We're part of a warm and loving church, and we find the small town
atmosphere refreshing. We have lost three of our four parents and my only
brother. Jim's mother and his brother and family live in Morgantown, so we do
visit there. I have two sisters in Maryland and a sister in Tennessee. Thank
goodness for telephones and email! Love to all, Kathy Martin Hardin
