Joe Hinson

Hi All—

Forgive whatever email protocol I’ve violated by responding to everyone, but there are so many old friends on the list that I couldn’t resist.  I may not make the reunion, but I’ll try.  Meanwhile, I’m happy to share the short version of my life since Morgantown and would love to hear about each of yours.

A lot of water has gone under the Westover bridge since then, and I’ve only been back to M’town, maybe twice.  Been really awful at keeping up with folks and regret that as I get older.  Anyway, I went to WVU in forestry, graduated in 1971, spent some time in the south and somehow or another wound up in Washington DC as a lobbyist for the timber industry in 1977.  In 1982, came to Idaho for a similar job at the state level (was really tired of being in DC).  Now, since 1997, I'm a private natural resource consultant and that works pretty well.  Married to a third generation cattle and sheep rancher, which is also pretty fun.  We cover a big territory--the sheep range over 170 miles during the course of a year and walk the whole way.  The sheepherders are all Peruvians.  Quite different from WV!!  Spend a lot of time in DC (as close as I usually get to M’town) and considered but did not take various appointments with the current administration, mostly because I’m pretty happy in Idaho and would have trouble with the complexity and congestion in DC, even though I’m used to it and did live there for 6 years (Idaho has neither complexity nor congestion and sheep are good neighbors).  So, I’m here, getting old, fat and cantankerous probably like most of you.  But I do get homesick once in a while…

Would love to hear from you and, if the wolves leave our sheep alone this summer, may see you in July.

Note--Joe didn't make the trip but I dropped by his place on my way back to California.
